Career Development We believe that the most important development activity is experience. Our Induction process is essential in ensuring staff get up to speed quickly with their job role, and we provide our staff with constant opportunities to develop their skills. For us, widening your skills is as important as moving up the organisation. Costain recognises that its success is dependent on a shared culture and work ethic, driven by effective leadership, sustained through career development and enhanced through performance measurement, review and feedback. We believe 80% of development should be ‘at the workplace’ with only 20% being off the job such as courses. Through a wide range of structured community forums we provide the opportunity to share knowledge and build relationships. Through our competence framework, online psychometrics, 360 feedback tools and external coaching, we provide the opportunity to evaluate your talent. By encouraging structured job rotation, internal and external secondment and structured career development, we provide a wide range of development programmes including accelerated paths to Director roles, NVQs through our own in house NVQ centres, and a focus on professionalism with awards for the achievement of corporate membership at a variety of levels with a wide range of professional institutions. In addition over a hundred Costain employees are sponsored through academic study. |
