Project Management Academy (PMA). Costain has launched an industry leading PMA working in conjunction with Construction Skills and key partners including ‘The Projects Group’, ‘Get Feedback’ and Erricker associates. The PMA allows everyone who wishes to develop their project management capability to go through a process of developing their technical project management skills, understanding their talents and behaviour and developing the leadership skills they need and finally putting these together to develop a 5 year career plan to achieve their personal goals. Key outputs from the academy are external verified and Internationally benchmarked qualifications with the Association of Project Managers (APM) and enhanced project management capability leading to improved project delivery for our customers.

Time & Personal Productivity. The Costain Time and Personal Productivity Master Class was delivered by Constructive Coaching for Costain to 260 participants over half a day. The programme introduced some key concepts and practical applications including how to manage email, how to delegate upwards and downwards, how to focus on your strengths and how to improve your ability to prioritise. Delegates were also issued with a recent book that outlined the key concepts of the programme. The Masterclass was followed up with a pod cast using a combination of web-based technology and the telephone lasting one hour. The programme was evaluated through a web-based survey that took five minutes to complete and over 50% of the participants replied. One of the key questions in the evaluation was ‘Can you quantify daily productivity time savings in minutes per day? 35% of the respondees were able to identify between 30 and 60 minutes of time saved by the programme. The investment of the programme was £24,000 and the calculated return £165, 956 proof of the impact and value of the training delivered.
